Project SRC-EXCo - Structure, Randomness and Computational Methods in Extremal Combinatorics

The research project Structure, Randomness and Computational Methods in Extremal Combinatorics (SRC-ExCo), led at the UPC node by Juanjo Rue and at the German node by Tibor Szabó, aims to advance the study of Probabilistic and Extremal Combinatorics, a highly active field within the realm of discrete structures with profound implications in various disciplines such as Computer Science, Design Theory, Population Dynamics, and others. The project seeks to make progress in multiple directions within this discipline, covering Ramsey theory, large graph decomposition, the study of random models in discrete networks, and computational aspects of classical combinatorial problems.

In addition to focusing on high-level academic research, SRC-ExCo emphasizes strengthening the already fruitful and existing academic and institutional collaboration between two key research groups involved in this project: the Geometric, Algebraic, and Probabilistic Combinatorics Group (GAPCOMB) at UPC and the Combinatorics and Graph Theory Group at Freie Universität Berlin. Through this collaboration, the project aims to leverage the combined expertise and resources of both institutions to foster joint organization of activities, hiring of personnel, and exchange of researchers.
